Asia Lunch

Back after a fortnight break. I have recovered now from fever and cold and world looks wonderful once more.

Asia's Lunch - Developed western countries???. I read a interesting myth blower about American workforce's ability to innovate. Its true that many of the top innovations are still coming from America, but the author of this book I read argues that behind every successful technological domination there is a clear and focused government strategy.

Consider this, Boeing was nurtured by the govt and govt spend lots of money providing gift deals before it became a pioneering company as it is now.

AT& T Bell labs, Army's Internet discovery and many such examples.

I read somewhere that during the great depression of 1920s govt intervened and started spending money on building critical infrastructure like roads, railways etc and that in turn provided steady income to many families and ignited the recovery.

All said and done I feel the 'American Spirit' represented by many a person from Edison to Wright Brothers to the pioneer explorers of wild west is not pervasive now and whatever the advances made over the last 350 years may not be enough for America in a new flat world of double barreled dragons and Sprinting Elephants.

IIMA - Deadline for Pgpx is tomorrow 06/30. I see that few last minute souls are scrambling to rush in their apps and alas the website is down.

Hopefully IIMA should extend the deadline by couple of days. These are applicants who are really interested in the program and I don't wish to see them :( ..

All the best..

cheers
